It’s well known amongst pretty much everyone that hotel buffet breakfasts are notoriously awful. But the past few years I’ve experienced some really incredible buffet breakfasts, and I feel like they need calling out! Granted they’re luxury hotels, rather than your standard Crowne Plaza or Holiday Inn, so they’re going to be a little more impressive than a stale croissant and over-cooked scrambled eggs, but even so – you need to know about these buffets. Even if it’s just to give you some hope that there are good ones out there!
Four Seasons Jumeirah Beach Dubai, UAE
My favourite buffet breakfast of all time, mainly because it has an ice-cream bar complete with crazy toppings, and ya know, who doesn’t want ice-cream for breakfast!? The selection of food was brilliant, there were freshly squeezed juices, pancakes, waffles, eggs, dim sum, baked goods, and everything else you could want! I also really adored the setting, the cafe it’s set in is gorgeous, and you can choose to sit outside amongst the trees on a beautiful terrace.
Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor, Cambodia
I loved the Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor’s breakfast because it was the perfect mix of buffet and A La Carte. A lot of hotels charge extra for A La Carte items, but Belmond include them and boy oh boy were they incredible! From crepes to eggs benny, and the tastiest most moreish waffles, there’s a really great variety. Also, the buffet has a wide range of fresh fruit perfect for the humid tropical Cambodian weather! They also served me a side of hash browns with some sort of leaf on top, which impressed me greatly.
Hotel Imperial Vienna, Austria
This was decadence and luxury at it’s finest. Think fine china eggs cups with the Hotel Imperial gold crest, champagne in crystal glasses, and a typically Austrian breakfast of eggs, meats, cheeses, and freshly baked pastries. The cafe that breakfast is served in is absolutely stunning, just like the rest of the hotel, and many times I’ve thought about returning to the hotel purely for the breakfast.
Shangri-La Chiang Mai, Thailand
One of the largest buffet breakfasts I’ve ever seen (although not quite as big as the Lebua in Bangkok), the Shangri-La Chiang Mai remains one of my fave hotels, partly because of the buffet breakfast offering. I tried out both buffet breakfasts; the Horizon Club one, and the normal standard guest one. The Horizon Club one is typical HC and just like every other HC brekky, but the normal standard guest one was huge and incredible!
Sheraton Melbourne Hotel, Australia
Probably the trendiest hotel on the list, the Sheraton Melbourne Hotel is swanky AF yet super trendy with a slightly hipster chic vibe. Little Collins St Kitchen is the cafe where breakfast is served, and oh my what a breakfast! Unfortunately there are no hash browns (my fave), but there are sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, and tomatoes, as well as international options, and two islands of dreams! The islands of dreams contain pastries, fruit, yoghurt, cheeses, cakes, waffles etc. It was ah-mazing, and everything just tasted divine. My fave thing though was the adorable individual glass juice bottles!
